You want a new car. You tell yourself it’s because your old one is unreliable, or that you need better gas mileage. Maybe you say it’s for safety. But is that the real reason?
A car gets you from one place to another. If transportation was all you wanted, any car would do. But often, what you want isn’t about what you tell yourself it is.
Are you really buying a car—or are you buying status? The feeling of success when people see you in a luxury model? Are you buying freedom? The idea that with a bigger, better SUV, you can finally take those road trips you’ve been dreaming about? Maybe you’re buying reassurance—proof that you’ve “made it.”
When you understand the deeper reasons behind what you want, you make better choices. You stop chasing things that won’t actually give you what you’re looking for.
If it’s freedom you crave, maybe you don’t need a new car, you need more time off. If it’s status, ask yourself why outside validation feels so important. And if you truly need a reliable vehicle, then great—buy one with clarity and confidence.
Before making a big decision, pause and ask yourself: What’s this really for? The answer might surprise you—and set you free.
