Being Right Won’t Make You Free

Nobody Loves Me Is Not a Strategy

Do you ever find yourself at your own pity party, whining to yourself or anyone who will listen about all the things that are wrong with your life? It’s almost like the child’s refrain of nobody loves me everybody hates me I think I’ll go eat worms.

A woman who asked to work with me after a Logosynthesis® presentation did just that. The first words out of her mouth were “They shouldn’t have fired me. The project was only a week late. They knew it was hard…” She seemed ready to go on for a long time, so I interrupted.

I said, “It sounds as if you want the world to be different.” She nodded and I told her, “That is your trigger.” I had her repeat the sentences using “this belief that the world should be different” as the trigger. When we finished, she said, “that’s better,” smiled and left.

That phrase is useful in a lot of situations: Both minor ones like someone not putting the milk back in the refrigerator and is leaving you to clean up after them to major things like the political situation you have no power do anything about right now.

I have frequently used it myself when I get into a judgmental mood that doesn’t serve me. We all have times when the world just isn’t going our way, but we don’t need to keep suffering about it.

This post is a comment I wrote about a passage on Page 85 revised edition, Page 101 original of  Letting It Go: Relieve Anxiety and Toxic Stress in Just a Few Minutes Using Only Words (Rapid Relief with Logosynthesis®). You can see the passage in the book. You can also see the excerpt here. This link will take you to Bublish.com, where I regularly publish comments on parts of this book. This is a site where authors share of their work. You can subscribe to my musings, there, as well as to the musings of many other authors. It’s a great place to learn about new books and I recommend that you visit.
